Event Details
Have you ever left a gig, rehearsal, recording session or venue and noticed a ringing or hissing noise in your ears?
This is tinnitus, and it can range from a very quiet background hiss to a permanent, disturbing and overwhelmingly loud ringing noise. It can be intermittent or continuous, and can vary in frequency and loudness. It’s often worse when background noise is low, so you may be most aware of it at night when you're trying to fall asleep in a quiet room.
Usually, it goes away after a few days - but sometimes, particularly if you are often in loud and noisy environment, it doesn’t.
What is tinnitus? How is tinnitus caused? What can be done for tinnitus? And how can you help protect yourself from incurring the unwelcome effects of noise induced hearing loss and its associated problems?
Well known sufferers include Pete Townsend, Evelyne Glennie, Bob Mould, Jeff Beck, Francis Rossi, Lemmy, James Hetfield, Trent Reznor, Bono, Moby, Thom Yorke and Will.i.am. There are many, many more. Make sure you’re not one of them…
Presented by the MU’s Paul Gray (The Damned, UFO, tinnitus) and Musicians Hearing Services Paul Checkley (clients include The Script, Coldplay, English National Opera and Plan B), the prevention of long term hearing damage in 2011 is both affordable and effective. The MU in association with MHS provide a range of services, including the Musicians’ Hearing Passport Scheme, to ensure you are best advised on hearing conservation and in selecting the correct solution for your individual requirements and noise levels.
